CFA Reunions

2009 Annual Meeting
Athens, Georgia
Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19

The 2009 annual meeting of The Chandler Family Association will be Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19, in Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia. (Don't worry - Georgia is playing football at Arkansas that weekend!)

Travel to Athens
Athens is located in northeast Georgia, just 61 miles northeast of Atlanta. Athens-Ben Epps Airport is served by multiple airlines that offer several flights daily to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Athens is also easily accessible from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson via regular airport ground shuttles and car rental. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is another option for flights. The Hotel
The headquarters hotel for the meeting will be the Country Inn and Suites at 236 Old Epps Bridge Road, Athens, Georgia (http://www.countryinns.com/athensga). The 81-room hotel features a beautiful 4-story atrium lobby, charming decor, and comfortable amenities such as a complimentary breakfast, wireless internet access, indoor pool, and a fitness center. The Country Inn & Suites is located near The State Botanical Garden of Georgia and is only two miles from the University of Georgia.

There are numerous restaurants nearby, eleven within 1/2 mile or less, with Zaxby's, McDonald's, and Hilltop Grille being closest. Red Lobster, Rafferty's, Outback, and Logan's Steak House are within a mile or two, and Athens boasts many other very nice restaurants.

The room rate for the CFA meeting will be $85.00 per night plus tax, a total of $96.90. You can make your reservation immediately. Call the hotel directly at 706-612-9100 and mention the “Chandler Family room block.” The reunion room rate extends from Thursday, September 17, through Saturday night, September 19.

About Athens (Jump to Athens Tourism Links)
In 1785, the University of Georgia was chartered as America's first state college. The city of Athens, named after the ancient Greek center of higher learning, was chartered in 1806. Athens and the University developed a uniquely urbane culture that visitors can experience through historic districts, house museums, and historic landmarks.

Athens boasts 15 neighborhoods on the National Register of Historic Places, including four distinctive house museums along Museum Mile. Daily guided tours, an audio tour, and several self-guided walking tours give today's visitors a glimpse of Athens' past.

Judy Hardegree of Winder, Georgia, our local host for the 2009 reunion, has done a lot of scouting in the Athens area on our behalf. (Thank you, Judy!) More information on reunion plans will be provided as they develop. We hope to see you there!

The Athens Welcome Center is located within the Church-Waddel-Brumby House (ca. 1820), whose rescue from demolition in the 1970s sparked the historic preservation movement in Athens. Tourism Links for Athens, Georgia
